Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 13, 2026

This policy explains what information Where We Check In ("we", "us") collects when you visit wherewecheckin.com, why we collect it, and what choices you have.

Who we are

Where We Check In is operated by the Where We Check In team, contactable via our contact form.

Information we collect

Information you give us. If you email us or submit the contact form, we receive your email address and whatever you put in the message. If you leave a comment, we receive the name, email address and comment text you submit, plus your IP address.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our server and our analytics and advertising partners record technical information when you visit: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, and the time of your visit.

We do not ask for, and have no use for, your payment details. Bookings happen on the travel sites we link to, not here. We never see your card information.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. This site uses them for:

Purpose Set by What it does
Site function Us / WordPress Remembers comment details, keeps the site working
Analytics Google Analytics (Site Kit) Counts visits and shows which pages are read
Advertising Google and its partners Serves and measures ads (see below)
Affiliate tracking Booking partners Records that a click came from this site so a commission can be attributed

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them will not stop you reading this site, though some features may behave differently.

Advertising

We do not currently run any advertising on this site. We plan to apply for Google AdSense; if and when that’s approved and ads go live, here’s what will apply:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet.
  • You will be able to opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, and out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info.
  • More detail is in Google’s privacy and terms.

This section will be updated the day ads actually go live.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and make a booking, we may receive a commission from the travel company at no additional cost to you.

Clicking an affiliate link means the partner (for example Agoda or Trip.com) may set a cookie to attribute that booking. Their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one. Every post containing affiliate links says so above the fold.

Affiliate commissions do not influence our rankings or recommendations. Our editorial rules are on the How We Research page.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics, via Site Kit by Google, to see visit statistics. We use this to understand which posts are read and where visitors come from. We do not use it to identify individuals.

How we use your information

We use the information described above to:

  • Publish and moderate comments
  • Answer emails and correction reports
  • Understand which content is useful and improve it
  • Serve and measure advertising
  • Keep the site secure and working

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties except the service providers listed in this policy, or where required by law.

How long we keep it

Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognised and approved. Emails are kept as long as needed to handle the matter, and then deleted. Analytics and advertising data are retained according to the providers’ own policies.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to certain processing. To make a request, use our contact form. We may need to verify your identity before acting.

Visitors in the EU/EEA and the UK have these rights under the GDPR. California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what is collected and to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — we do not sell personal information.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

External links

This site links to hotels, booking platforms and other websites. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices. Read their policies before giving them information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Changes are posted here with a new "Last updated" date at the top. Significant changes will be noted on the site.
